We can help

We know how exciting buying a new sofa can be, and we’re here to help you every step of the way.

The last thing we want you to do is fall in love with one of our sofas – and we’re pretty sure you’ll end up head-over-heals – only to realise that it won’t fit in your room or even your house.

At zofa we’ve seen this happen before, but don’t worry, we’ve got your back.

Our team has over 50 years of expertise in creating stunning sofas, and ensuring customers are never left disappointed. And this sofa measuring guide is one of the ways we help.

We cover all the things to consider when measuring for a new sofa, including the pitfalls to avoid, and the boxes to tick to ensure you find the perfect size sofa for your home and lifestyle.

So, get your tape measure out, and let’s get started…

We’ve done some of the work for you

There are many factors to consider when choosing a sofa, such as style, colour and fabric. With so much going on it’s easy to forget about size, but we take care of that for you.

Every zofa sofa on our website comes with all the measurements you need. That way, when a sofa catches your eye, you can quickly see if it will fit well in your room or not. Simple.

Think about the whole room, not just the sofa space

You’ll no doubt already have an idea of which room your new sofa will be going in, and where it will be positioned. But it won’t sit alone, so think about how it will compliment the other pieces of furniture, such as tables, cupboards and lamps.

The right sofa can really tie a room together, so consider the whole room when making your decision.

Give some thought to the height of any radiators or shelves that may sit behind your new sofa as this can influence your choice, and don’t forget to consider the space needed when any doors in the room are opened.

It may seem like there’s a lot to think about, but It’s best to cover all the bases now.

Measure, measure, then measure again

The golden rule has always been to measure twice, buy once. But we think it’s best to go ahead and measure for a third time, just to be sure. This is the only sure-fire way to avoid any nasty surprises when your sofa turns up on delivery day.

A useful trick to help you visualise how much space a new sofa will take up is to lay out pieces of paper or card on the floor, to map out its size. This will give you a feel for how easy it will be to move around the room once the sofa is in place as well as any potential issues, such as the risk of banging into other furniture in the room.

Once you’re happy that you’ll have plenty of space to move around, you have your maximum dimensions to work with.

Zoning’ is very on-trend at the minute. It’s all about the clever placement of statement furniture – like a zofa sofa – to create distinct spaces in a room. These can then be used for specific purposes, such as relaxing, entertaining or watching TV as a family.”

Make the best use of your space

If you’ve always had a classic three seater sofa, you don’t have to necessarily replace like-for-like.

Our sofas come in a range of shapes and sizes, from single seaters to L-shaped sofas, which means a world of choice for you. It also means that if you have a quirky room shape, the chance are we have a sofa, and a size, which will fit just right.

Sofas are also great for dividing up a room into different areas. This is call ‘zoning’ and is a great trick to use if you have a big open plan room that would benefit from being broken up into separate spaces with their own purpose and feel.

Don’t forget about getting it in!

So, you’ve measured the space you have available, and it looks like your dream sofa will fit there perfectly. Great news. But there’s one more factor to consider – how are you going to get it into the room in the first place?

It’s easy in all the excitement to overlook the issue of access, but this really is as important as the size of the sofa itself. Measure any doorways that you’ll have to pass through and work out what clearance there is. Then think about the access hallways, curves and corners in your house. By doing this, you’ll get a feel for what size sofa you can fit in.

We want you to love the look and feel of your new zofa from the moment you set eyes on it (and sit on it of course). We’ll happily send you a box of fabric samples and who knows, we might throw a little something extra in with it too.
